Today I’m sharing a simple card matching game that I printed from an online resource and put together myself. The website Chibimusu-Doriru has a ton of printable educational activities in Japanese, beginning from toddler level to Junior High. I found a series of card matching games, and decided to try out the sushi version. The instruction is straightforward: Print, cut each of the 20 cards into half (there’s already a line for you to follow), spread the cards out, and find which ones match! This game is just difficult enough for my three year old who can read hiragana but doesn’t really know sushi names. What makes it a little tricky is that some sushi cards look alike (i.e. buri and hamachi, unagi and anago). So it works best if the player is accompanied by someone who can read hiragana and knows sushi names. I think I’ll try introducing the cards facing down once my preschooler gets familiar with the names.
Tip: Once I cut the cards out from its original printout, I pasted them onto color construction paper. Then I stuck those onto thick paper to keep them flat and sturdy. I keep thick paper that comes in my Uniqlo purchases, the ones that keep t-shirts and toddler pants in shape inside plastic package. Those came in handy for this project!

ちびむすお寿司絵合わせカードゲーム
「ちびむすドリル」というサイトをご存知ですか？幼児から中学生レベルまで使える学習プリントを無料ダウンロード出来るサイトです。私が一番最近ダウンロードしたのはこのお寿司の絵合わせゲームです。使い方は簡単：印刷して、２０枚全てのカードを半分に切って、バラバラにして並べて、絵を合わせるだけ！うちの３歳児に遊ばせてみたところ、難し過ぎず簡単過ぎずといったところです。ぶりとハマチ、うなぎと穴子、など絵がとても似ているカードがあるので、そこは難しくてもしょうがないかなと思いました。親御さんが日本語を読めて、お寿司の名前を分かる方なら助けてあげることができます。ですがうちの主人のように絵だけを頼りにマッチさせようと思ってもうまくは行きません。今後うちの子がこのゲームに慣れたら神経衰弱のようにカードを伏せてからスタートしてもいいかなと思います。
私は印刷したカードを切り抜いた後、黄色の画用紙に貼り付け、それから厚紙に貼りました。ユニクロのTシャツや子供服のパッケージについてくる厚紙を使いました。あの紙は資源削減のためにはやめて欲しいのですが、クラフトには役立っています。
